There is no short answer to this question, so I’m going to dig a little deeper to give you an understanding of how to earn as much money as possible for the time you invest into your profession.
Here are two ways you can increase your personal trainer salary while working less just by changing the training programs that you sell.
Focus on A Niche
If you focus your training programs on a specific niche you can charge more per hour than what a personal trainer can charge who trains everyone.
But what niche should you choose?
There are many niches you can go for, it all depends on what type of clients you like to train and who live in your geographic area.
For instance if you’re live in a town that is heavily populated with the baby boomer generation, it doesn’t make sense to offer crossfit style training.
Here are some good niches that you can target;
Weight loss
Kids fitness
Older population
Rehab
Sport specific (you can go deeper by choosing a particular sport)
Bodybuilding
Powerlifting
Olympic lifting
Specific Illnesses (i.e people with diabetes etc etc)
Post natal
Pre natal
This is just a small list but you get the idea, do not be a generalist, a specialist will earn far more per hour which means you get to work less and spend more time with your family and doing the things you love. Group training and boot camps
If you want to earn more money, you need to serve more people.
The problem with 1-1 personal training is that you’re limited by the numbers of hours in a day, so once you reach that number you are capped at how much you can earn. If you want to earn more money the only thing you can do is;
1. Charge more per hour.
2. Increase the frequency of your training sessions (which means working more hours).
3. Get more clients (which again means working more hours).
But, the great thing about training groups and boot camps is that you can train 15,25,50 people per hour… so you do not have a salary cap.
You can literally earn as much as you like and are only limited by your ability to fill your bootcamps.
This is a far smarter business model because you have leverage, whenever you start a business always look for leverage so you earn more by doing less.
Advertising via the press
Another good way for marketing your personal trainer business is to advertise in the local magazines and newspapers. Compose an advertisement about the benefits of fitness training maybe high-lighting the accomplishments of a particular trainee and send the ad to many of the newspaper or magazine companies who advertise online. This method, though not a direct way to promote your business will make it known in the community.
